Mark Cuban vs. Donald Trump, The Billionaire War!
April 19, 2004--There's a battle royal brewing in reality TV land. Two heavyweights are going head-to-head. No, we're not talking about Mark Burnett's new boxing series The Contender. Instead, we're talking about Donald Trump and Mark Cuban, two billionaires that are squaring off in a war of words over their respective reality TV shows. It all started when Trump in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times (http://www.suntimes.com/output/rosenthal/cst-ftr-phil15.html) basically called Cuban's The Benefactor a copycat of The Apprentice and questioned whether it would do well.
Mark Cuban took offense and fired back at The Donald from the pages of his web blog (http://www.blogmaverick.com). Mr. Cuban went on the offensive stating that The Benefactor will be nothing like The Apprentice and that he himself is nothing like Donald Trump. But Cuban didn't stop there, he also basically called Trump an egomaniac, relaying a story of how Trump's office is covered with pictures of himself. Cuban also blogged in reference to Trump, "I promised myself that if I ever got liquid and had an obscene amount of money in the bank, I would make a point not to remind myself and everyone else around me of it every minute of every day — unlike you." Probably the toughest cut though was when Cuban hit upon Trump's recent struggles with his Casinos. Cuban blogged, "How in the world can you pay yourself while shareholders take a beating?"
Reality TV Magazine (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com), a new magazine focusing on reality television, is seeking to play peacemaker between the two battling billionaires. Reality TV Magazine has offered up their message board as a neutral forum where Mark Cuban and Donald Trump can post to air out their differences. Rumors circulate that Mark Cuban is already floating around the message board waiting for The Donald to show. Cuban is known as an avid Internet user who regularly posts to his blog and personally returns many fan emails. Mr. Trump isn't known as a frequent Internet user, but we're pretty sure he owns a computer or two. By appearing on Reality TV Magazine's message board, The Donald could address Cuban's complaint and prove he is able to mix-it up in a public forum often used by the non-rich people in the world. Reality TV Magazine will verify the identities of the posters through email communication and moderate the debate to keep things from getting out of hand. Joe Reality, mascot/editor-in-chief of Reality TV Magazine, says, "This is not just a blatant attempt to get free publicity and sell magazines. We're really troubled by seeing billionaires bicker, and we just want to make the world a better place. If two billionaires can't make peace, then what hope do us that have no money have? Can't we all just get along."
